Navigating the journey of becoming a parent can be an immensely daunting task, and caring for a newborn often comes with a steep learning curve. Participating in antenatal classes can serve as a valuable resource for expectant parents to adequately prepare for the arrival of their baby, offering them the confidence and knowledge to address any challenges they may encounter along the way.
Recently, Parenthood organised their biggest antenatal bootcamp yet with over 200 parents attending at the KL Wellness City Gallery in Bukit Jalil.During this Mother’s Day weekend, Parenthood not only wanted to educate new parents on the ABC’s of Parenting, but to also celebrate Mother’s Day with giveaways up to RM38,000 worth in total.
The bootcamp started off with an exciting announcement by Kirei Kirei, who exclusively revealed their new anti-bacterial foaming hand wash – a grape variant under the Refreshing Range that was not even launched to the public at the time. Along with the special announcement, 3 lucky winners were thrilled to have won a special Kirei Kirei hamper worth RM63.
Kicking of the talks was Prof. Dr. Teh Lay Kek, Professor from UITM Puncak Alam, who educated participants on how DNA plays a part in babies’ lives. During this session, Prof. Dr. Teh explained how understanding more about our baby’s DNA can be helpful in preventing unwanted illnesses and customising lifestyles to lead a healthy life.
Since a majority of the participants were having their first child, many were intrigued with the next topic covering prenatal, postnatal and the delivery journey. This session was presented by Dr. Timothy Lee Chin Ren, O&G Specialist from Tung Shin Hospital who shared with the mummies and daddies present first hand knowledge on what to expect during their pregnancy journey, processes during the delivery and what happens post delivery.
Next up, CryCord shared about The Wonders of StemCell Banking and how your baby’s stem cell and cord blood may be able to help in the future should certain diseases affect him, his siblings, parents and even grandparents. Cerebral palsy, leukaemia, thalassaemia, autism and spinal cord injuries are just some of the examples that stem cell or cord blood can help with.
Other topics that were presented during the bootcamp included Breastfeeding as well as Babycare 101. These two topics were presented by Sister Elizabeth Richard, a Lactation Consultant and Infant Care Coach, from Parentheses, School of Parenthood.
Not only was the talk engaging, each participant also got the chance to participate in a hands-on activity where they learned how to pick up and carry a newborn the right way.
To emphasise the importance of using and choosing the right car seat for newborns, Child Occupant Safety Instructor (COSI), Sarah Ng shared with participants some rules and regulations of car seats in Malaysia and also shared some insight on how to pick the right car seat that is not only suitable for your lifestyle, but according to a child’s age and height. She also explained and demonstrated the proper way to buckle up a child to ensure their safety. During this session, one lucky couple even got the chance to bring home a JOIE Versatrax Stroller and i-Snug Infant Carrier worth RM3098 to better equip them for their newborn baby.
Among the other lucky draw prizes that couples had the chance to go home with include a Spectra Dual Compact Breast Pump worth RM1264, a CHILDHOME Mommy Bag worth RM699, a mini sterilising box worth RM149 and even an Ergobaby Metro+ Deluxe Compact City Stroller worth RM2499.
