Becoming a parent is a big deal and taking care of a newborn is tricky. Attending antenatal classes before the baby comes can help a lot. It gives soon-to-be parents the info and confidence to handle whatever comes their way. Recently, Parenthood in collaboration with Gleneagles Hospital Kuala Lumpur organised an Antenatal Bootcamp which included several topics for parents-to-be and new parents.

ABC

The full-day workshop, which saw about 100 participants in attendance, covered about 7 must-know topics that are essential for any parent and parent-to-be. It is considered one of the most interactive workshops that caters to expecting parents in this era.

Kicking off the workshop, Lactation Consultant Elpeni Ramli delved into the topic of breastfeeding, providing comprehensive insights. She covered essential aspects, such as the correct technique for latching a baby onto the breast, which is a crucial skill for a successful breastfeeding journey. Additionally, participants received guidance on various breastfeeding positions suitable for different circumstances, be it a natural birth, c-section, or if expecting twins.

Dr Vijayan

Dr. Vijayan Padmanathan, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist from Gleneagles Kuala Lumpur presented a talk on some of the things that parents should know about labour and childbirth. From birth positions to knowing what to expect, Dr Vijay also answered numerous questions that were on parents’ minds at the time.

What makes Parenthood Bootcamps a favourite among new and expecting parents in this age are the demonstrations given by professionals, which are also interactive. Topics such as Emergency Guide to Choking by Nurse Rabiatun and Step-By-Step To Bathing Baby, by Nurse Manager, Ms Lim Seng Keat, give participants a visual understanding about the topic.
