Antenatal Check-Ups: Walking Hand in Hand with Your Baby, One Appointment at a Time

The moment you see those two lines on a pregnancy test, a new chapter of your life begins, one filled with dreams, anticipation, and a deep desire to provide the very best for your little one. Antenatal check-ups are not just medical appointments. They are gentle milestones that help ensure both you and your baby are growing well, safely, and confidently. Each visit offers reassurance, answers, and a chance to listen in on the quiet progress happening inside you.

Antenatal Check-Up Schedule

Ideally, Pregnant mummies should go for their first check-up within the first 10 to 12 weeks of pregnancy. Subsequent appointments will mostly follow this schedule:

● Once a month until the 28th week or seventh month of pregnancy.
● Fortnightly (once every two weeks) in the eighth month of pregnancy.
● Once a week from the 37th week or ninth month of pregnancy until delivery.

These regular visits help monitor your baby’s development while also keeping track of your own health as your body changes.

What Happens at Each Stage

11 weeks – 13 weeks

● Ultrasound
● Confirmation of pregnancy
● Blood test
● Maternal screening

This early check-up confirms your pregnancy and gives the first clear look at your baby, often an emotional moment for many parents.

14 weeks – 19 weeks

● Blood test
● Maternal screening

These appointments continue to monitor growth and detect any early concerns, offering peace of mind as your pregnancy progresses.

10 weeks onwards (NIPT Test – Optional)

● Blood test (99% accuracy in detecting Down syndrome and able to determine Abby’s gender)

For parents who want additional genetic information, this optional test provides highly accurate screening results.

22 weeks – 24 weeks

● Detail scan for structural abnormalities

This is a key milestone, giving a closer look at your baby’s anatomy and overall development.

24 weeks – 28 weeks

● Detail + 4D scan on baby’s physical form
● Modified Glucose Tolerance Test (MGTT) for mothers who are at risk of diabetes.

At this stage, many parents enjoy seeing more defined features, while health checks ensure mum stays well too.

28 weeks & 32 weeks (first pregnancy)/

32 weeks (second pregnancy onwards)

● ATT Injection to protect mum and baby from tetanus infections.

This important vaccination helps safeguard both mother and baby.

34 weeks – 35 weeks

● Vaginal swab to screen for vaginal infections

As delivery approaches, these checks help ensure a safer birth experience.
