Garden International School (GIS) has officially opened its new RM100 million Sports Complex, a landmark addition that reflects the school’s commitment to raising confident, resilient and well-rounded learners.
Spanning five levels and 200,000 square feet, this world-class facility is designed not only to support the growing performance of GIS students, but also to contribute to the wellbeing of the wider community.
A World-Class Playground for Aspiring Athletes
The Sports Complex is equipped with facilities more commonly seen in professional training environments. Students now have access to:
- An Olympic-size swimming pool
- Two full-length indoor basketball courts
- Two tennis courts
- A fully equipped gym and fitness suite
With many GIS students already representing their states and even the nation in competitive sports, this major upgrade helps support their development, training needs, and ambitions.
A Milestone Inspired by Values
The launch ceremony was officiated by YB Puan Hannah Yeoh, Member of Parliament for Segambut, alongside senior leaders from Taylor’s Schools and Garden International School.
President and CEO of Taylor’s Schools, Mr BK Gan, shared that the complex has been “eight years in the making”, a long-term project built around student needs, school values, and community benefit.
“For our students, it provides world-class facilities to help them push their limits, build resilience, and grow together as teammates,” he said.
He also highlighted that the development is a strategic solution to long-standing traffic concerns in the area, thanks to a new underground car park and improved access to Jalan Kiara 3 and 5, something parents will surely appreciate during busy school runs.
Designed for Students, Shared With the Community
In true GIS spirit, the Sports Complex isn’t reserved solely for its students. The school has opened its swimming pool and sports hall to the public to help support an active lifestyle within the local neighbourhood. This move also aligns with the government’s goals of strengthening grassroots sports, backed by the RM580 million allocation for sports development in Budget 2026.
Despite the significant investment, GIS emphasises that it is not expanding its student capacity. Instead, the focus remains firmly on quality, ensuring every learner benefits from enriched facilities without overcrowding.
More to Come: Performing Arts Centre in Phase 2
This Sports Complex marks the completion of Phase 1 of GIS’s campus transformation plan. The school has already introduced a basement car park, an alfresco dining area, and a FIFA-standard youth football field.
Looking ahead, GIS is preparing for Phase 2, a new RM85 million Performing Arts Centre that will further broaden its learning environment and support students with interests beyond sports.
Building the Future, One Student at a Time
As GIS approaches its 75th anniversary in 2026, the opening of the Sports Complex reflects the school’s dedication to long-term, values-driven investment in education. It also marks a historic moment for Taylor’s Schools, as incoming President Ms Angelina Tee will become Southeast Asia’s first female President of a regional K–12 education group, a milestone that signals progressive leadership for the next chapter.
For parents, these developments underscore the school’s philosophy: investing not in bigger numbers, but in better experiences, stronger foundations and brighter futures for every child.
