What Parents Should Know About the Ease of MCO starting 4th May

Today (1st May 2020) the government has announced that some conditions of the movement control order (MCO) that was first introduced on March 18 would be relaxed and almost all economic sectors, business activities can resume ops under conditional MCO starting May 4th.

“I am saying almost all because there will be industries and businesses that will not be allowed to operate. These are businesses that involves the presence of a lot of people where body contact and social distancing will be difficult to exercise,” said Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in a special address.

As parents, surely many of us are thinking about how it will affect us and our family.

Below are some points to take note about the ease of MCO that begins next Monday (May 4th).

 

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES

Activities such as cinemas, karaoke centres, reflexology centres, entertainment outlets, Indoor playgrounds and themed playgrounds and all expos or activities that gather a large number of people are NOT ALLOWED to operate.

 

SPORTS ACTIVITIES

Sports activities that involve crowds, body contact and other risks of infection are also not allowed. This includes football, rugby, swimming and all indoor and stadium sports events.

Jogging, biking, golfing and running in small groups are also allowed provided that you practice social distancing and avoid body contact.

 

SOCIAL EVENTS

Social, community and cultural events involving public gatherings such as kenduri, open houses, gatherings to break fast, concerts, cultural performances, government and private department monthly assemblies and all forms of public and private gatherings are not allowed.

 

DINING IN RESTAURANTS

Dining in restaurants are allowed provided that the Conditional Movement Control Order (MCO) is adhered to. This includes, table distancing, social distancing, registration of customers and their contact and face masks for all workers.

 

DAYCARE CENTRES

Child care centres will be opened by adopting specific health SOPs, although employers are urged to to allow parents to take turns working from home to care for their child.

 

SCHOOLS

At the moment, all schools, colleges and institutions of higher learning will not been opened.

 

BALIK KAMPUNG

Travelling between states is also not permitted except for the purpose of attending work or returning home after being stranded in your hometown. Travelling between states for the Aidilfitri holidays is not allowed.

 

The full list of businesses and activities that will not be allowed can be obtained at the National Security Council website www.mkn.gov.my

This list will be reviewed from time to time depending on the progression of COVID-19 infections.
