Educational tech (EdTech) platform, SoroTouch recently hosted its second annual World Online SoroTouch competition – SoroFes 2021.
The competition witnessed participants from all over the world, competing in a 9-hour-long mental calculation tournament, to claim the title of the World’s Best Mental Calculator. Having brought home gold medals from previous SoroTouch competitions, the Malaysian team once again bagged gold medals in some of the individual categories, and a team gold and bronze medal in Junior Group. The young talents aged five to eight have yet again made Malaysia proud on the global stage.
The 79-strong Malaysian team comprised decorated and capable students from EdTech provider Ai Tech House, exclusive partner of SoroTouch in Malaysia. The determined students took part in both individual and group categories in all 3 divisions – Junior, Super, and Ultra. Students participated in events such as Flash Anzan, where they solved long strings of mathematical problems in just a matter of seconds without the use of calculators, and the blind abacus test, where they added up numbers with an imaginary abacus.
“I’m very proud of what our ‘anak-anak Malaysia’ has achieved in this SoroFes. I had no doubts about their capabilities following their success in previous events and global competitions such as HaruFes where they placed top in the addition/subtraction, multiplication, division and Flash Anzan categories. I believe that this not only serves as a huge confidence booster for Malaysian participants, but also showcases the talents and unlimited potential of our students, proving that if we put in the time and effort, there is nothing that we cannot do,” stated West Wong, Founder of Ai Tech House, EdTech provider and exclusive partner of SoroTouch in Malaysia.
“Through events like SoroFes, we allow students to interact with other participants from all around the world and build meaningful connections that will last a lifetime. It is heartening to see students getting together, despite hailing from different corners of the world and speaking completely different languages, to enjoy, discuss, and appreciate one common language – mathematics,” added Yasunobu Hashimoto, President of SoroTouch.

The Malaysian team went up against formidable opponents from all around the world, including Japan, Vietnam, China, the US and the Republic of the Marshall Islands. In total, 6 countries participated in the tournament, gathering 618 students.
One of the parents, Joanne Teoh, commented, “The whole competition was nail-biting, but it was a good experience for my daughter Alayna” – a bronze medalist in the Junior Team category.
A Revolutionary EdTech Platform That Aims To Train Current and Future Generations Towards Becoming Mental Calculation Champions

Originating from Japan, platform SoroTouch’s data-driven approach to mathematics allows for faster mastery of mathematics and mental calculation. By processing more than 590,000 responses from over 6000 students on a daily basis, SoroTouch is able to better curate and structure unique challenges and questions based on their level of understanding of the subject matter and allows students to master mental calculations in less than 2 years – more than half the time required to master the skill through more traditional methods.
Through partners like Ai Tech House in Malaysia, SoroTouch’s big data-backed Education Tech (EdTech) solution is made available for local students to build passion towards mathematics and instil a growth mindset. Furthermore, it allows the cultivation of the “4Cs” – Critical Thinking, Collaboration, Creativity, and Communication within students through a slew of exciting games on the SoroTouch centre system.
Competitions like SoroFes are important as they allow students to unlock their numeracy skills as well as paving the way for a potential career in the STEM industry. Ultimately combating the recent shortage of STEM graduates in Malaysia.
