Looking for an ideal place to eat these days has become quite a challenging task. Mainly because as parents, we would look for restaurants and cafes with at least a play area or a kids menu or better yet all the above including a kid-friendly toilet and environment! More and more places have mushroomed out these days so we want to share a few of our favourites that do NOT charge for the usage of their play area when you patronize their cafe (we’re already paying a heavy price for meals right?!). Check them out below:
Hoshino Cafe

Smack in between Midvalley Megamall and Gardens Mall this Japanese Restaurant Cafe is a good place to stop by while shopping as it serves good hand dripped coffee together with scrumptious savoury meals and delectable desserts. A place where the coffee connoisseur in you will be satisfied and your child be happy as well, as they have a private playroom with toys and books designated on the second floor. The cafe also serves yummy kids meal sets. The good thing about this cafe is that it has its own in-house toilets. By far the most child-friendly place you can find in the entire Midvalley Megamall & Gardens Mall circuit.

Weaning Tots

A lovely cafe with an indoor playground that has a huge tubular slide that slides down to the dining area, Weaning Tots will surely keep your little ones busy. A great place for playdates, family gatherings and birthday parties. Children will be easily occupied by the various different sensorial play stations and spacious sitting areas throughout the establishment. Food is generally healthy and less sweet and salty. The pizza is nice as the crust is handmade fresh. Portions are on the small side, great for children but not suited for sharing. They have an interesting selection of cold pressed juices and ice creams as well. A good place for a private party. However, the play area can seem rather overused and hygiene could be better.
What We Like :
- Kid’s menu
- Play area built around the cafe
- Has kid size wash basin in the cafe
- Has activity paper and color pencils for kids to color

Pistachio Cafe

A bit of an unexpected kid-friendly cafe in a housing area, Pistachio cafe has an in-house play area and a flat-screen TV screening cartoons. Equipped with kid’s cooking utensils and a mini playground, children are sure to be entertained. It also has separate Male Parent & Female Parent Toilets that has a big lavatory and a mini one. This is a unique and useful feature that is commendable as most other kid-friendly cafes do not have this. Food is mainly a fusion between western and local dishes, and what is nice is that their sauces are made from scratch and not generic. They also have a nice kids menu that is usually served in an attractive plate for kids and comes with a Yakult drink if you order as a set. The only downside we found is the music played, which can be rather loud and inappropriate for children.

Yellow Brick Road a.k.a Wicked Pancake Parlour

A favourite amongst pancake lovers, this cafe is well known for its elaborate and unique pancake menu. The cafe is in a double-storey building where the main cafe operations are at the ground level called the Yellow Brick Road cafe. It has artistic wall murals of the characters in The Wizard of OZ. During peak hours between 11am-3pm the cafe opens its 1st-floor sitting area which is named the Wicked Pancake Parlour. The additional dining hall is up one flight of stairs and has a small area enclosed by some safety fence on the far left with some bookshelves and some well-read children books, a playmat, a table and some children toys that have seen better days.
Aside from the awesome food and pancake selection, and the small fenced off play area, this cafe is not very kid-friendly as it didn’t have a kids menu and the toilets are really small and cramped, making it hard to manoeuvre if you need to accompany your child. More of a hangout place for adults though.
What We Like:

Suffice to say it’s a good place for parents to watch their kids yet have the luxury of enjoying good coffee and hanging out with friends. It is not a quiet cafe.

The Workshop

Located in the hustle and bustle of busy little suburb Sri Petaling, this cafe on the 3rd floor has some rather fancy and original self-created menu of fusion food. It also serves premium ice cream and has a section displaying some very fancy collectable toys for sale. On weekends it is usually very packed especially if there is an ongoing function (to avoid disappointment do check before you go!). Otherwise, it is an ideal kid-friendly cafe as it has an onsite playground made available to patrons of the cafe or if you are just there for the playground, they charge a fee of RM12. Children and adults are required to wear socks when playing. You can buy it from them if you did not bring any. They also have child-friendly toilets. The downside is that it can be too crowded and the service too slow. The play area also seems quite overused and not as clean as it was when it first opened. We recommend going on weekdays to avoid disappointment.
