Q: My baby was sleeping and napping well, but she just turned 4 months and her schedule seems to have fallen apart. What do we do?

Answered by: Dr Chong Sze Yee, Paediatrician & Paediatric Gastroenterologist, Pantai Hospital Ipoh
It’s part of child development. Usually around 4 months of age, the baby’s brain is more mature and the baby starts to develop adult sleeping pattern with longer sleep at night. Some babies may have problems in adjusting. You can help your baby by creating a calm and dark environment. Try to establish a bedtime routine for example cuddles, massage, quiet music etc. Remember to be patient. Do not allow your baby to be overtired. Sometimes, you may need to share your burden with other family members once a while to avoid burnout. However if you can’t get her to calm down & sleep or she has other symptoms like vomiting or difficulty in breathing, please seek help from a paediatrician.
