Chinese New Year is a time many families look forward to each year. It is about returning home, gathering around the dining table, sharing laughter, and welcoming a fresh start together. At Sunway Pyramid’s Chinese New Year launch, this familiar sense of togetherness could be felt throughout the mall, as families, children and friends came together to usher in the Year of the Horse.
This year, Sunway Pyramid’s festive theme, “Galloping Into Prosperity,” transforms the main concourse into a vibrant celebration of tradition and modern creativity. The centrepiece is a striking golden horse standing atop a giant 走马灯 (Zǒu Mǎ Dēng), a rotating carousel lantern inspired by traditional Chinese designs. As the lantern turns, six colourful horses come into view, each designed by art lecturers from Sunway University. Together, they symbolise joy, good fortune and forward movement for the year ahead.
Families visiting the mall will find plenty of interactive experiences to enjoy together. At the Fortune House of Blessings, visitors can draw fortunes for the new year, while the Lanternlight Photobooth offers a cosy spot for families and friends to capture festive photos and create keepsakes from their visit.
At the launch, Mr Jason Chin, Senior General Manager of Sunway Pyramid, Sunway Giza and Sunway Square, shared that the Year of the Horse represents strength, momentum and progress. These values reflect Sunway Pyramid’s commitment to continuously improving the mall experience while remaining a space where families can gather, celebrate traditions and make new memories together.
Adding a fun and modern twist to this year’s celebrations is Sunway Pyramid’s collaboration with popular family content creators, The Kuans. For the first time, sets from The Kuans’ Chinese New Year music videos have been recreated across the mall. Visitors can step into scenes from four songs, That’s 马 Way, 通通好运来, Money Mari Mari, and 一起浪新年, and film their own dance covers at the designated checkpoints.
Families who complete all the checkpoints and scan the QR codes through the Sunway Super App will receive an exclusive Sunway Pyramid x SIS Huat Bag. Those who upload their dance covers on Instagram and tag @sunwaypyramid, @the.sisclub, and @thekuanfamily, along with the hashtag #SunwayPyramidWithKuans, will also stand a chance to win exciting prizes. The grand prize includes Sunway Lagoon tickets, Sunway Megalanes bowling passes, a Sunway Pyramid exclusive Leobubu, a SIS Club mask, and festive angpow from the Kuans Family.
Beyond performances and photo opportunities, visitors can browse festive bazaars and pop-up stalls throughout the mall offering Chinese New Year treats and hampers that are perfect for open houses and gifting. On selected weekends and public holidays, traditional lion dances and energetic drum performances add to the lively atmosphere, bringing the celebration to life for both children and adults.
