Calling all little ones!
Mattel, the leading global children’s entertainment company, is running an online contest to help get your letters of thanks to frontliners in the healthcare industry. This is in line with the company’s efforts to donate Limited Edition #ThankYouHeroes UNO decks and toys to hospitals. As the effects of COVID-19 continue to hold the nation in a vice grip, Mattel wants to encourage kids to be little changemakers and remind them that they can always make a difference.
As the COVID-19 pandemic took over the world, parents and caregivers expressed the trouble they were having with working and playing from home and needing resources to help. Hearing this call, Mattel created Mattel Playroom, a website featuring activities and content from their iconic brands. Soon after, the company launched Play it Forward, the philanthropic arm of Mattel Playroom, conceived to leverage the company’s brands to drive awareness of and give back to important social causes. #ThankYouHeroes is the first campaign launched under this platform, designed to honour and thank the frontline healthcare workers and everyday heroes keeping communities up and running, while also giving back to healthcare workers and their families.

The #ThankYouHeroes line featured products from brands like Fisher-Price®, Mega Construx®, Matchbox®, and UNO®. While the #ThankYouHeroes products were not available locally, Mattel Continental Asia has developed a campaign that shines light to thank our nation’s frontliners.
From now until 9 April 2021, Mattel Continental Asia will be hosting an online contest for kids to write thank-you notes to the frontliners in Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) and Sungai Buloh Hospital. Mattel will collate the well wishes and heartfelt thank-yous and send them along with a toy donation for children recovering from COVID-19. For their efforts, 50 winners will be chosen to receive a limited edition #ThankYouHeroes UNO tin which features beloved characters like He-Man® as a grocery delivery worker and Barbie® as a scientist.
“At Mattel, we know how formative play can be. It’s through play that kids learn about the world around them and we are proud to recognise our frontliners as heroes, leading the fight against COVID-19,” said Mr. Ivan Franco, General Manager, Mattel South Asia. “It is our hope that the outpouring of messages of gratitude and support from young ones around the nation will bolster the spirits of our healthcare workers as they continue to work round the clock to keep us safe.”
