Maxim E-Hailing specialists analysed the statistics for the period from 2019 to 2023 and compiled the top five most popular cities, names and car brands among female partners of the service.
According to the analysts, Kuching, East Malaysia, is the city with the highest number of female drivers. Second place went to Kota Kinabalu, the capital of the Sabah state. Third place is shared by the two largest cities in Malaysia by population: Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru. Sandakan, a city located on the coast of the Sulu Sea in the state of Sabah, took fourth place. Rounding out the top five is Miri, the second-largest city in the state of Sarawak.
Speaking about the most popular names, the specialists revealed that passengers are about 10% more likely to meet a driver named Ana. The top five most popular names also include Amy, Anna, Farah, Fatimah.
As for the average age of drivers, in 51% of cases they are under 35 years old. Second place is taken by drivers who are 36–45 years old (40.1%). The number of female drivers aged from 46 to 65 years old partnering with the service is the smallest and makes up 8.9%.
Women most often drive compact Perodua MyVis. Perodua Axia, Perodua Bezz, Proton Saga, Perodua Alza are also common choices. An interesting fact is that most of the vehicles popular among female drivers are small and manufactured in Malaysia.
“Rides with female drivers are characterised by a high level of safety. Because of the special driving style, they try to avoid sudden starts and stops, as well as dangerous manoeuvres. Traveling with a woman behind the wheel is perfect for families with little children, and young girls who want to feel more safe and confident when riding in a vehicle alone, especially when it’s dark outside,” says Mohd Hazwan Musley, Head of the Maxim service in Malaysia.
Moreover, passengers note a high level of service quality and rate rides with a female driver positively, hitting the like button upon arrival at the destination address in 90% of cases.
