Kumon Malaysia, the country’s largest after-school enrichment programme, held its first Kumon English Talk Show to celebrate the enrollment of 10,000 students in the Kumon English as a Foreign Language (EFL) and Kumon English as a Native Language (EE) programmes.
Kumon Malaysia introduced the EFL programme back in March 2022, which offers children of non-native English speakers a comfortable and highly effective platform to learn the language through Kumon. On the other hand, the existing EE programme aims to enhance the advanced English reading comprehension skills of children already exposed to an English-speaking environment. By customising English programmes to suit each child’s language environment, Kumon Malaysia continues to pave the way for an optimal learning experience amongst its students.
“The introduction of the EFL programme is a testament to Kumon Malaysia’s commitment to cater to the diverse needs of children in their language learning journey. Along with this Kumon English Talk Show, we aim to continuously highlight the importance of learning English from a young age,” said Mr. Atsushi Hasegawa, General Manager of Kumon Malaysia.
“We know that enhancing English proficiency will expand students’ future career prospects while also granting them access to a wider range of diverse information that enriches and adds excitement to their lives. With our comprehensive and adaptable English programmes, we aim to empower our students to succeed in an increasingly globalised world,” he added.

Malaysian Astronaut and guest of honour, Dato’ Dr. Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor, was present at the event to inspire students with his personal stories and shared the importance of learning foreign languages. During his sharing session, he also opened up about his experience teaching his children to speak and read English at a very young age.
“The Kumon English programme has significantly improved my sons’ English proficiency. With structured and personalised worksheets, the programme is intended to help children improve their reading comprehension and vocabulary skills. Concurrently, this programme has helped my boys develop self-learning skills and confidence in speaking English,” he shared. His twin boys are currently attending Kumon programmes for both English and Mathematics.
During the event, participants also had the opportunity to explore various engagement booths including the Kumon CONNECT, Kumon Franchise and Kumon Free Trial Classes booths. Over 1,000 attendees, which consist of Kumon English programme students, parents and instructors attended the event staged at the IOI Grand Exhibition Hall in IOI Mall Putrajaya while another 1,000 participants attended the event virtually.

Kumon Malaysia also unveiled its cutting-edge service, KUMON CONNECT. Launched in January 2023, this innovative platform allows students to access Kumon’s renowned worksheets digitally on tablet devices. The introduction of Kumon CONNECT revolutionises the learning experience by enabling students to study anytime, anywhere – providing unparalleled flexibility and convenience. In addition, KUMON CONNECT provides visualised records of students’ learning and progress – which facilitates easier tracking of achievements and increases motivation.
As one of the leading private education institutions in Malaysia, Kumon remains committed to its mission of contributing to the development of the Malaysian society. Through its comprehensive English programmes and innovative services such as Kumon CONNECT, Kumon Malaysia continues to empower students and equip them with the skills necessary to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.
