5 Tips for Working Mothers to Keep Their Routine on Track

Mothers have a lot of duties nowadays due to the pandemic caused by Covid-19. Mothers also have more duties, as the whole family is stuck in their homes and will not be able to leave, causing the whole family to sometimes feel bored and have a lack of physical activity.

Mothers will have to play and entertain their kids but that can only happen if they have the time for it.

Below are five tips that mothers can use to keep their working routine and entertain the family at the same time.

1. Maintain your routine

The first step of the routine is to maintain the ability to keep the structure of the day as similar as possible to a typical working day.  From there, mothers will be able to schedule in a child-care time where they give time to their family. The routine should be set so everybody knows when to have physical activities or educational time. To do so, you can wear you wearable technology as it saves everything just on your wrist.

2. Modified schedules

Mothers have so many duties such as online work and childcare. You should build a schedule for the whole week so that it incorporates the routine at a high level, but  keep the chores (tidying, dishes, cleaning, laundry), meals timing and childcare, or any other physical activity flexible rather than stressing yourself about them.

You can create a google calendar that messages or gives you notifications on your electronic wrist wearables, so you don’t have to memorise everything. You can also do a partner swap – each time a person works, the other can take care of the kids or do household chores. You can do short shifts for about 2 hours or 3 hours a day.

3. Do old chores the new way

Try to keep the old chores but do it in a new and better way. For example, get your kids involved! Teach them to sort the trash, wipe off certain areas, help to put away their own toys and lots of other child-friendly chores. Not only does it ease your chores, but it’s also very beneficial to young children, as they’ll learn about self-discipline and responsibilities.

4. Activities with minimum supervision

Depending on your work schedule and the age of your child you should arrange a schedule that includes family time. Family time is very important as it decreases the ability of stress and keeps the family’s relationship healthy and happy. Provide your children with blocks, puzzles, board games or colouring utensils- things that require minimum supervision, so you can complete your work task while they’re busy.

5. Plan your meals ahead of time

prep food

One of the best ways to make the most out of your routine is by prepping ingredients for you to cook the night before. This way, when lunch time or dinner time comes, all you need to do is pop it into the oven / pot / pan. Instead of having to think about what to cook and stressing about preparation while you have an important deadline to attend, plan your meals before going to bed and have all the ingredients ready for a quick fix.

Alternatively, you can prep ready-to -eat meals during the weekend and store them in the freezer. This is especially helpful when things do not go as planned or if there’s a sudden work deadline you need to attend to.
