This year has been a trying time for all due to the COVID-19 pandemic that has stricken the entire world.
It seems like everyone’s life is at pause while waiting for this pandemic to vanish from the earth.
We’re all waiting fervently for things to go back to a normal state.
But will it or will it not? – something for all to wait and see or, should I say – only God knows!
While the restriction-free Christmas is not possible this year, it won’t be the first time a religious festival is celebrated during the pandemic.
During Ramadan and Eid, Muslims celebrated during the Movement Control Order (MCO) while Hindus celebrated Deepavali under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO).
So for this Christmas, whether the country continues with CMCO or not, the celebration can still go on.
It may not be the usual Christmas celebration like it used to be, but a celebration in the new ‘NORM’!
Here’s how you can celebrate Christmas even if you’re away from your friends and relatives under the new norm!
1. Wrap yourself in the arms of your loved ones

Since going out to shopping malls as a family may not be possible if we’re still under CMCO, carol singers, Santa appearances, and taking photos in beautifully decorated malls to share on social media may not be happening this year.
Instead, you can get your husband or even your children to dress up as Santa and also bring the beautiful decorations into your home.
2. Continue your family traditions

Even if you’re not doing everything you used to, you can set up the Christmas decorations, such as putting lights on your Christmas tree, putting up new drapes, Christmas themed flower arrangements, hanging Christmas socks, and many other merrier decorations on your list.
Have fun creating your own DIY ornaments or decorations with your children.
3. Cooking and baking your family’s favourite

Use a Christmas tree cookie cutter (or other festive shapes) to create bite-sized cookies for the entire family.
To add some fun to the preparation, grab some festive coloured frosting, and decorate the cookies with your children.
Serve those delicious cookies with hot milk or chocolate milk and enjoy these special treats together.
4. Create special memories

Keep celebrations fun and enjoyable, whether you’re indoors or outdoors.
Look for activities that keep you active, like Christmas board games, fun storytelling, singing, dancing, or watching favourite movies together with your family.
Don’t forget to serve your family’s favourite foods and drinks to help keep everyone happy.
You can do a Secret Santa or gift exchange around your beautiful Christmas tree too.
You will surely be making wonderful memories together!
5. Share your joy, kindness and love

This year 2020 has taught us how much the people in our lives mean to us, so go ahead and share some happiness where you can.
Write down how much the people you love mean to you and send it out to them.
Make Christmas cookies and send some to your friends, neighbours, or even nearby frontliners at the hospital, fire department, or police station to brighten up their day.
Festivals may come and go, but the true spirit of Christmas is the joy that you share with others.
Sharing, love, and kindness will make this Christmas truly meaningful and wonderful!
Have a Merry Christmas!
