7 Ideas to Celebrate Valentine’s Day During a Lockdown

It’s 2021 already! Here we are still fighting against the pandemic. I can’t believe March will mark a whole year since our first Movement Control Order (MCO).

Well, no matter what – life goes on. Ups and downs are the norms in everyone’s life. Happiness or sadness comes and goes, but LOVE remains in most of us – be it husband and wife, parent and children, grandchildren and grandparents, or even friends. The sad truth is, most of us are stuck at home again and we’ll be spending it in lockdown.

So, how can you make your loved ones feel special this Valentine’s Day? Do you need some creative Valentine’s day inspiration? We’ve got you covered!

1. Breakfast in Style

The best way to start your Valentine’s day is from the moment you wake up. How can you surprise your partner? Get him/her to freshen up. Use fresh rose petals to lead your wife or husband to a breakfast spot and then surprise him with all of his/her favourite menus.

You may want to add some fairy lights and nicely arranged fresh flowers along with some love notes. Not to mention, fill the house with a yummy smell of your freshly made breakfast.

Aww, how romantic!

2. Thoughtful Positive Notes

Wouldn’t it be nice and wonderful to hear some positive compliments from your partner? It means the whole world to me if someone does it for me! Well, you can show your love by writing some compliments on some heart-shaped post-it notes. Tell them what you love about him/her, remind them about the fond memories you have or even a simple ‘I Love you’, which many of us tend to take for granted these days.

Simply write whatever comes to mind and leave them in places along their routine path. For instance, on the bathroom mirror, on their mobile, on their make-up bag, in the closet, etc.

It’s one of the most inexpensive things you could do to show your love, but it’ll surely make a great impact.

3. Create Your Own Special Lunch or Dinner

Since you can’t go for any fancy lunch or dinner at the restaurant, you’ve got no choice but to either cook, bake or order food delivery. Whatever your choice is – it’s important to make time to do some things together and make it feel a little special than other days.

Bring out the candles, fish out the fancy cutleries, have your lunch or dinner table set up nicely and enjoy each other’s company (even if the kids are third-wheeling your date).

4. Work out Together

Staying indoors shouldn’t stop you both from working out. Valentine’s Day is also a day for some burnt-out exercise. So, activate your fitness mood by getting in some sessions of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity.

It can boost your thinking and lower the risk of depression and anxiety.

5. Home Spa for the Evening

If your partner loves going to a spa – then why don’t you bring the spa to your home? If you are clueless about what to do, just Google- lah! You can buy face masks, get some bubble baths, oil massages, and treat each other with a manicure and pedicure.

To set the mood for a spa-like feel, fix the lighting, on some spa music, and there you have it – a home spa!

6. A Game Night

If you have kids at home, let’s also include them on this special day. Get them in and let them choose some indoor games of their choice. Just make sure to serve a variety of games so that everyone will have fun together. Whenever someone is leading the game or winning, cheer as loudly as you would to feel the joyful moment.

You can play some board games with your children, or face off against your partner with tabletop pool or foosball from the comfort of your couch.

7. A Movie Night

It may sound like the usual or common thing to do but nothing beats the moment of you both sitting together without any disturbances from your kids while watching a late-night Valentine’s Day movie.

Pop some popcorn, light a mood-setting candle and snuggle under the blanket in the comfort of your own home. While things may look and feel different this year, there are still plenty of ways to make Valentine’s Day special for you and your partner, or even as a family.

So spread some love and have a lovely Valentine’s Day!
