These days, keeping our families healthy goes beyond balanced meals and regular checkups; it includes creating a safe and clean environment at home, especially when it comes to the air we breathe. For families with kids who are sensitive to allergens or have respiratory concerns, the importance of indoor air quality is more crucial than ever. It’s a topic that hits home for many of us— just like Kuang Yue Fan and Low Wai Fei, founders of Kurin International, who saw their siblings struggle with nasal allergies and sleepless nights due to poor air quality.
As they shared their stories with each other during their time at the University of Malaya, they discovered a common goal: they wanted to create a solution that would allow families to enjoy clean, safe air at home without the hefty price tag of premium air purifiers. Many high-quality options were simply too expensive, while cheaper models often lacked the features to truly improve air quality. It became clear that there was a gap in the market for affordable, reliable air purifiers designed with families in mind—and they were determined to fill it.
Affordable Quality and Strategic Growth
When Kurin International first launched, Yue Fan and Wai Fei faced a big challenge: how to create a high-quality air purifier that didn’t come with a premium price tag. They knew their products needed to be accessible to everyday families, so they focused on essential features—like strong filtration and durability—while skipping the expensive extras that drive up costs. This thoughtful approach allowed them to offer a reliable product at a mid-range price, around RM 300–450, which is a far cry from high prices charged by high-end brands.
“At the beginning, we really looked into the main function first and left out any unnecessary fancy functions. The hospital grade HEPA 14 – which is the highest grade filter was the priority as well as the child-lock safety function,” said Wai Fei.
Their first model, designed to be straightforward yet effective, received positive feedback from families who needed a practical solution to improve their indoor air. Over time, Kurin grew not only because of their smart pricing strategy but also because they listened closely to what families actually wanted. Parents reached out with suggestions, and Kurin responded by incorporating these ideas into future designs, making each product better suited to real family needs.
Community at the Core of Their Business

From our interview with them, we could tell that Kurin International is a community-focused company that truly listens to its customers. From the start, Yue Fan and Wai Fei made it a priority to engage with their users, often incorporating their suggestions into new models and updates. For example, many parents requested for a unit that require lower electricity consumption, and what Yue Fan and Wai Fei did was talk to their manufacturer on how to bring the electricity consumption down.
“We created an Ai function that adjusts itself according to the number of people in the room. For example, if there is no one at home, the air purifier will filter much slower compared to when there are 10-12 people in the room,” says Yue Fan. “We even added a like a tray on top of the air purifier because one of the moms in our community was suggesting that we did, so they could make it more functional like to put remote controls or some decoration on it,” he continued.
Kurin’s V5 Pro
Kurin’s V5 Pro air purifier is designed with family health and safety in mind. At the core of the V5 Pro is a powerful, hospital-grade 3-layer filtration system, each layer engineered to target different pollutants and allergens that often affect young children and adults alike.

The first layer is an anti-bacterial pre-filter, which captures larger particles like dust, pet hair, and pollen while actively inhibiting bacterial growth. This pre-filter not only extends the life of the main filter but also provides a crucial first line of defence against particles that can trigger allergies or asthma. Next, the True H14 HEPA filter—one of the highest-grade HEPA filters available—removes 99.995% of airborne particles as small as 0.1 microns, effectively capturing tiny allergens, mould spores, and even virus particles that may be lingering in the air. The third layer, a bio-activated charcoal filter, tackles odours and harmful gases, keeping your home’s air fresh and safe to breathe.
Besides filtration, Kurin’s V5 Pro goes a step further with patented UVC and AirMed™ ion technology. The UVC light targets the DNA and RNA of microorganisms like bacteria and viruses, while the AirMed™ ion system emits ions that bind to airborne particles, causing them to clump together and fall out of the breathable air.
What’s Next for Kurin?
Developed in response to feedback from parents looking for convenient, multi-functional cleaning solutions, Kurin also recently launched their K600 Pro Wet & Dry Vacuum Cleaner to complement their air purifiers, providing a holistic approach to a clean home environment by tackling both air and surface cleanliness. They even came up with Kurin Pet P700, which is targeted to fur-parents.
So far, Kurin has made its products available through multiple channels, such as their website and popular e-commerce platforms like Shopee and Lazada. They are also in the planning stages of venturing into offline retail by opening stores in major shopping centres to provide an opportunity for parents to see and experience Kurin products firsthand, get advice from knowledgeable staff, and have immediate access to after-sales support.
