IKEA Brings the Savannah to Malaysia With a New Kids’ Collection That Celebrates Play & Endangered Wildlife

If your kids love animals, soft toys or anything to do with imaginative play, IKEA’s latest launch might be the most exciting news of the year. The new SANDLÖPARE collection has officially arrived in all IKEA Malaysia stores, and it’s designed to spark curiosity, storytelling and an early love for wildlife – especially endangered species.

Inspired by the African savannah, this 29-piece collection is filled with soft toys, textiles and play furniture that turn any corner of your home into an adventure. Think: stools that become zebras, bath robes that transform little ones into cheetahs, or bedrooms that feel like a safari campsite.

Developed together with Swedish wildlife conservation centre Nordens Ark, the collection doesn’t just look adorable, it quietly teaches children to appreciate and care for the natural world.

“We can’t bring every child to the savannah… but we can bring the savannah to them.”

Takeshi Murai, Store Manager of IKEA Klang Valley, shares that play is how children make sense of big topics like endangered animals. “SANDLÖPARE brings that world to their homes. We want every child to feel wonder, imagination and possibility, no matter where they come from.”

Play That Makes a Real Difference

In true IKEA spirit, the launch isn’t just about cute toys. It’s also about giving back.

From 27 November to 27 December 2025, IKEA Malaysia will donate RM1 to Teach For Malaysia (TFM) for every soft toy purchased — whether it’s from the new collection or classics like the BLÅHAJ shark, KRAMIG panda, BLÅVINGAD ocean creatures or the beloved FABLER BJÖRN teddy.

Your child gets a cuddly new friend, and another child in a high-need school gets access to better learning opportunities. Win-win.

The funds will support TFM’s Fellowship Programme, a two-year initiative that places young professionals and graduates in underserved schools to help close education gaps while leading community-impact projects.

“This initiative allows us to deepen our work in communities that need it most,” said Fam Li Ying, Director of Growth at Teach For Malaysia. “It invests in future leaders who champion every child’s right to learn, explore and fulfil their potential.”

This effort is part of IKEA’s longstanding global commitment to children’s wellbeing, equality and education.

Safe, Sustainable and Super Huggable

Parents will appreciate that all SANDLÖPARE soft toys are made from 100% recycled materials — from their fabric to their stuffing. Each one also undergoes rigorous testing for durability, safety and chemical compliance, including multiple washing cycles. If your child loves to drag their plushies everywhere, rest assured these will survive.
