Kingsgate International School has taken one step further in bringing the Malaysian education system to a whole new level. With the brilliant mind of Dr. Cheng Yue, a renowned child development expert and educational practitioner from China as their backbone, discover how this school is using AI as leverage to shape the future of learning.
Over the years, the world of education has gone through a plethora of changes. From traditional classrooms to virtual lessons, we have seen it all, we have experienced it all. With AI making waves all over the world now, it is only natural for education to embrace this technological shift. And the visionary minds of Kingsgate International School are doing just that!

In a groundbreaking collaboration, the school has partnered with China’s renowned child development psychologist Dr. Cheng Yue to implement Malaysia’s first AI-integrated education system. This initiative is set to redefine learning, equipping students with the critical skills they need to thrive in an ever-changing world. With AI-driven insights and personalised learning approaches, Kingsgate is taking a bold step toward the future of education.
A Collaboration of the Future

Dr Cheng Yue
With over 30 years of experience in education and child development, Dr. Cheng Yue has been a pioneer in innovative teaching methodologies. His passion for early education led him to become an expert in the field, and when he was introduced to ChatGPT 3.5 in February 2023, he was astounded by its potential.
He quickly realised how AI could revolutionise the education industry. After two years of keen observation, Dr. Cheng concluded that schools and educators who embraced AI first would be the ones to lead their students into the future of learning.
In his search for a forward-thinking institution, he discovered Kingsgate International School—an innovative school aligned with his vision—and decided to collaborate with them. This partnership marks an exciting milestone, bringing cutting-edge AI education into our standard education system.
Globally, AI has already taken a high level of importance and has been implemented in many developed countries in terms of education. A stark difference compared to what we have here in Malaysia. According to Dr Cheng, “A school that practices AI enhancement in their delivery will be very relevant in the future.”
Kingsgate’s AI-Driven Transformation
Like any other good school, Kingsgate International School’s mission is to prepare students for a rapidly advancing world, and AI plays a crucial role in achieving this. Dr. Cheng plans to implement AI in the school by first rerouting the entire system to align with modern technological demands.
Secondly, he aims to integrate software that is relevant to the school’s specific educational structure, ensuring that AI tools enhance and complement the existing curriculum. Finally, new hardware—including screens, media platforms, and updated technology—will be introduced to put AI’s potential in full use.

The idea is to let students, from a very young age, be familiar with the use of AI in the classroom. This approach ensures that each student receives a personalised education, maximising their potential and allowing them to learn at a pace that suits them best. Dr. Cheng believes that AI is highly flexible and can be easily incorporated into various aspects of learning. At Kingsgate, AI programs such as ChatGPT, Nova, and Arvin will be implemented in the classroom to enhance interactive and creative learning experiences.
“For example, a simple drawing of a student in the class can be elevated to the next level with AI by transforming it into an animated character or an interactive digital project—turning education into an immersive and dynamic experience.”
Aligning AI with Kingsgate’s Educational Philosophy
Kingsgate embraces AI integration as a natural extension of its holistic approach to education. Here, students will have access to a wide range of workshops, seminars, and skill-training programs designed to introduce them to AI and help them discover their unique interests.
Through AI, the school aims to unlock each student’s potential and nurture well-rounded individuals. The ultimate goal is not just to produce academically strong students but to equip them with essential skills enhanced by AI-driven learning, preparing them for the evolving future. Through AI, the school aims to unlock each student’s potential and nurture well-rounded individuals.
To ensure a seamless transition into AI-integrated education, teachers will undergo specialised training and evaluations to identify their strengths in implementing AI tools effectively. While traditional examinations will remain in place, AI will serve as a complementary tool to enhance students’ adaptability and learning experience. Dr. Cheng believes that the future of education is shifting, and the conventional approach of focusing solely on studying and exams will eventually be replaced by a more knowledge- and solution-driven system. AI is not here to replace education but to revolutionise how students learn and apply knowledge in a rapidly changing world.
AI Dependency: A Hidden Threat to the Young Minds?
They say, “Too much of a good thing can be bad”. While AI brings vast advancements to education, excessive dependency on it raises concerns about its impact on students’ critical thinking skills. Dr. Cheng acknowledges that AI is inevitable but stresses that its effectiveness depends on proper usage.
At Kingsgate, educators will guide students to use AI as a tool to enhance creativity rather than as a shortcut. AI will serve as a support system, not a replacement for fundamental skills, ensuring students first develop core competencies such as reading and mathematics for a balanced education.
However, the dangers of AI misuse cannot be ignored, as there have been cases where over-reliance on technology led to severe consequences. Kingsgate prioritises responsible AI integration through teacher guidance and student workshops to ensure AI fosters development, confidence, and self-worth.
“Parents also play a crucial role in this journey. By embracing AI, they can better support their children’s education, and Kingsgate is committed to working alongside them to make AI a safe and meaningful part of learning,” Dr Cheng said.
The Future of Malaysia’s Education with AI
The integration of AI into Malaysia’s education system marks a transformative shift in how students learn and engage with knowledge. Dr. Cheng emphasises that while AI will play a central role in education, it will not replace teachers but redefine their roles. In the next 3–5 years, educators will shift from traditional teaching to becoming mentors and counsellors, guiding students in navigating AI-generated information.

As AI becomes more integrated into both international and local schools across Malaysia, teachers will focus on critical thinking, ethical considerations, and personalised support. This transformation extends beyond education, as AI is set to revolutionise various industries, shaping the future of how we learn and work.
“Instead of waiting for AI to happen to you, why not embrace it?” – Dr. Cheng
As Kingsgate International School takes a bold step toward AI-integrated learning, it is paving the way for a future where technology and education go hand in hand. By embracing AI as an enhancement rather than a replacement, Kingsgate with the brilliant mind of Dr Cheng Yue, is setting a new benchmark for education in Malaysia. Kingsgate is not just integrating AI into education—it is redefining what learning in the 21st century truly means.
