BE KINDER TO OUR PLANET! Earth & Me Introduces Malaysia’s First Biodegradable Bamboo Baby Diapers

DID YOU KNOW?
It takes an estimated 500 years for conventional diapers to decompose!

Earth & Me, a new homegrown sustainable baby products brand, has unveiled Malaysia’s first biodegradable disposable baby diapers. Launched in conjunction with World Environment Day, the diapers are made with organic and responsibly sourced bamboo.

Earth & Me’s sustainable innovation looks to directly address the alarming environmental impact of conventional diapers, which are one of the largest contributors of plastic waste globally. Winding up in landfills by the millions, disposable diapers are estimated to take over 500 years to decompose. In comparison, Earth & Me’s bamboo diapers biodegrade by over 60 per cent in just 75 days.

“At Earth & Me, our mission is twofold. Not only do we strive to safeguard the environment, we also recognise the need to shape the consumption mindset of the next generation. Through our green baby products, we aim to ignite a paradigm shift: urging parents to embrace a sustainability-first lifestyle that will trickle down to their kids, as well as the planet they will grow up in,” expressed Michelle Teh, Founder of Earth & Me.

Kind to the environment, even kinder to babies

The bamboo that goes into Earth & Me’s diapers are ethically sourced from selected sustainable bamboo forests in China that are strictly free of pesticides and herbicides. With its regenerative properties, bamboo is a fast-growing sustainable alternative and requires less water during its production cycle compared to other plants.

Tapping into bamboo’s natural breathability, Earth & Me’s diapers absorb more liquid than cotton ones, and are made for both whole-day and overnight comfort. As the diaper is soft and hypoallergenic in nature, the bamboo fibres within organically wicks away moisture, reducing the likelihood of skin irritation and rashes.

Created with the utmost consideration for delicate babies and their sensitive skin, the diapers are also naturally odour-repellent and contain no heavy metals, chlorine, dyes, brighteners, or artificial fragrances.

“As a mother of two myself, I personally felt the need to make sure that diapers — which are a necessity for every growing family — were making a more positive impact on the wellbeing of both the environment and my little ones. Since newborns take time to build up their natural immunity, it was important to me that Earth & Me’s diapers are chemical-free and prioritised the health and comfort of newborns,” adds Michelle.

Earth & Me’s biodegradable bamboo diapers are available in a diverse range of sizes from S to XL. The diapers also cater to newborns with various body mass and types, covering weights from 2.5kg to 20kg. The brand also has plans to develop a training pants variation, providing an additional option for growing infants.

In addition to its signature baby diapers, Earth & Me also offers baby-friendly natural cleansing wipes. Similarly free of artificial fragrances, chemicals, or alcohols, they feature a selection of plant-based extracts — including aloe vera leaf, cica (centella asiatica), and grapefruit. The wipes are also made thicker and wider than those in the market, with a honeycomb texture for easier and more effective cleaning.
