Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, YB Adam Adli and the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, represented by YBhg Datuk Haji Azmi bin Abdul Hamid, Executive Director of Social Economic Development, DBKL flagged off the World Vision Malaysia Run for Children held at Dataran DBKL, Kuala Lumpur over the weekend. Also present at the flag-off were Terry Leong, World Vision Malaysia CEO; Tan Chor Sen, OCBC Bank (Malaysia) Berhad CEO and Datuk Naim bin Mohamad, Chairman of the KL Car-Free Morning Implementation Committee.

The World Vision Run for Children is an annual run to advocate for child rights. This year, the theme is “Behind Every Scar, There is a Story”, a reminder that although the trauma may fade over time, it leaves an indelible mark on children. Thus, everyone has a role to play to ensure that our children grow up safe and protected.
Unlike other runs that require runners to complete a specific distance, participants of World Vision’s Run for Children are required to clock in a total of 42 minutes (to advocate for the 42 Rights of Children as outlined by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child). The Run is a hybrid event where participants can choose to run in person at the official event or virtually at a venue and time of their choosing.

Approximately 2,500 participants signed up for the Run, of which 50% including families and children were at Dataran DBKL this morning. Employees from OCBC Malaysia, Valiram and Mastercard have also joined the Run. Together, people from all walks of life are making a move for child rights.
Funds raised will go towards child protection projects in Malaysia and overseas to help and protect children from abuse, neglect, and other forms of violence. To date, World Vision Malaysia has raised more than RM180,000.
