- How to Handle The Little One
- The Wonders of StemCell Banking
- Essential First Aid Skills All Parents Must Know
- Pregnancy, Delivery and Postpartum
- Eczema in Babies
About 30 over couples attended our ‘ABC’s of Parenting & Babycare’ workshop last November, which was held at Pantai Hospital Ampang. Most who attended were new parents who are just a few months away from giving birth to their first born baby.
The workshop started off with a sharing from Senior Midwife, Ms Lim Cheong Peng who shared all about breastfeeding, including the correct technique to latch a baby to the breast. This technique is an important step to learn, as it is one of the main reasons for a successful breastfeeding journey ahead. She also taught participants on the different positions to breastfeed a baby. Whether you’ve given birth naturally, via c-section or if you’re having twins, there’s a breastfeeding position that you can try to see which you’re most comfortable with.
Ms Lim also shared with participants some basic baby caring tips on how to safely give baby a bath, how to handle baby while in a bathtub and caring for baby’s umbilical cord. She also managed to bust some myths that were on some parents’ minds when it came to bathing and caring for baby.
Next up, Sam, Senior Consultant from CryoCord share about The Wonders of StemCell Banking and how your baby’s stem cell and cord blood may be able to help in the future should certain diseases affect your baby, his siblings, parents and even grandparents. Cerebral palsy, leukemia, thalassaemia, autism and spinal cord injuries are just some of the examples that stem cell or cord blood can help with.
After a delicious lunch break prepared by Pantai Hospital Ampang, participants learnt about the essential first aid skills with Dr Zaidi Zakaria. Most parents have no idea what to do in case of an emergency like choking, which needs immediate attention. Participants were taught the basics on how to help a choking child, how to do CPR and other essential first aid skills to be better prepared in case of an emergency.
One of the hot topics that most participants were eager to know more about was the delivery process. For this topic, Dr Sai Sudha, Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist (O&G) at Pantai Hospital Ampang shared her expertise about pregnancy, what to expect during the delivery period and also shared some tips for the postpartum period. Here, participants took the chance to ask budding questions about the delivery process, options that are available and ways to make the delivery process smoother.
Last but not least – on the topic of eczema in babies, Consultant Paediatrician, Dr. Goh Chun Hwee shared his own personal story of how his baby was affected by eczema, the numerous process he went through, and how he finally got his baby’s eczema under control.
But that wasn’t the end of the workshop. Couples who attended also had the opportunity to win some lucky draw prizes from a number of brands including OffSpring who are infamous for their eco-friendly fashionable diapers.
