Columbia Asia Hospital Bukit Jalil Promotes Health & Community Unity with SIHAT! Fun Run & Family Carnival

Columbia Asia Hospital – Bukit Jalil, a new addition to the neighbourhood, took a dynamic step in connecting with the community through their first-ever event, SIHAT! – a fun run and family carnival held on a vibrant Sunday morning. The event, organised just two months after the hospital commenced operations, saw an enthusiastic participation of 400 residents from Bukit Jalil and neighbouring areas.

Embracing a Healthy Lifestyle

SIHAT!, meaning “healthy” in Malay, not only reflects the hospital’s commitment to health but also its eagerness to forge strong ties with the community. Dr. Sharonpal Singh, General Manager of Columbia Asia Hospital – Bukit Jalil, highlighted the importance of taking care of one’s health and emphasised the event’s purpose as a means to bring the community together in a fun and engaging way.

“As a new member of this neighbourhood, we felt it would be proper to introduce ourselves up close and personal in a way that not only relates to a healthy lifestyle but also something that would bring the community together.”

The Fun Run Kick-off

The event kicked off with an energetic Zumba warm-up session led by Zin Jacinda Webb, setting the tone for the exciting activities ahead. Participants, donned in turquoise SIHAT! T-shirts, were then flagged off on their choice of a 3km or 5km route, taking them through Bukit Jalil landmarks, including the recreational park, national stadium, golf club, and residential areas.

Community Support and Giving Back

The SIHAT! fun run not only promoted a healthy lifestyle but also raised an impressive RM16,000 in proceeds. This generous sum will be distributed to three NGOs within the Bukit Jalil area. Dr. Sharonpal expressed the hospital’s commitment to future community engagement, promising events such as children’s activities, health workshops, and informative health talks.

Carnival Extravaganza for Families

As runners approached the finish line, the carnival festivities began, featuring a range of outdoor games and indoor activities. The Young Doctor Challenge stole the show, allowing children to explore practical self-care tips and enhance their communication skills through hands-on activities and role-playing. The Columbia Kids Club mascot, Zoey the Parrot, made a special appearance, delighting both children and adults alike.

In addition to the engaging activities, the carnival offered complimentary health screenings, a safety and emergency workshop, first aid demonstrations, ambulance tours, balloon giveaways, and food trucks. Event partners, including Munchy’s crackers, Vitagen by Marigold, Wise Crafters health food, Wondrous Kombucha, and Oriplus gelato and fresh juices, added to the vibrancy of the event.

Connecting Through Health and Happiness

SIHAT! not only reinforced Columbia Asia Hospital – Bukit Jalil’s dedication to community engagement but also showcased the hospital’s commitment to fostering a healthy and happy neighbourhood. With the success of this event, the hospital looks forward to future initiatives that contribute to the well-being and unity of the Bukit Jalil community.
