DROP THE DISTRACTIONS! Here’s A Stylish, Family-Friendly Getaway For That Much Needed Family Time

In this day and age where we’re constantly busy with life – from day-to-day chores or work from the office, spending quality time with your family can be a bit challenging. Breaking that routine and removing your family from the day-to-day activities can help to strengthen the bond and bring everyone closer.

As parents, taking a break and going on a vacation for a few days will help you to focus on spending time with your kids without the distractions of daily life. Plus, it’s beneficial for their development and level of happiness too!

Yes, often parents may put the whole idea of bringing kids on a vacation in the ‘too hard’ basket, but it doesn’t have to be, especially when you pick the right place to spend your family holiday.

Recently, I had the chance to visit Avani+ Mai Khao Phuket Suites & Villas, a chic, family-friendly resort in the northwest part of the popular Thai island with 70 one, two, and three bedroom suites that are super spacious.

The generous sizes of the suites and villas provides that extra room for the little ones to roam amid uncluttered spaces, natural finishes and muted colours that foster a welcoming, laidback island atmosphere. 30 of their one to four bedroom villas even has an outdoor living space with a pool, a functional kitchen that you can cook in, and a washing machine and dryer for laundry – perfect for long stays!

AvaniFit
Keep your fitness goals on track at the fully equipped and state-of-the-art AvaniFit gym, with free weights, cardio machines and more. Private personal training and classes are available on request, beautiful Mai Khao Beach is just steps away for morning runs, and bike tours are available throughout the day.

Some of the resorts main amenities include a large lagoon swimming pool, a fitness centre complete with gym equipment, and a kids club called AvaniKids for ages 4-12 years old. They also have complimentary bicycles for both kids and adults that you can ride around the resort.

AvaniKids colourful kids’ club has special activities daily, which include pizza making classes, tree planting, and even visiting a turtle sanctuary. For more outdoor fun, your kids can also do wall climbing, go cycling or maybe even join in on a yoga or Muay Thai class. As a mum to young children, I also love that they have a playground within the resort’s compounds – not many resorts have this feature.

Childcare services are available upon request. So mum and dad can enjoy a little more time for themselves.

And while the kids are busy with their activities, you’ll probably be drawn to the turquoise-tiled tropical lagoon pool with a swim-up bar serving up delicious concoctions to feel-good, chill-out music throughout the day or maybe do some shopping and dining at Turtle Village located just across the resort.

As for food, you’d be spoilt for choices! Open for buffet breakfast and dinner, Talad Restaurant covers the full spectrum of iconic regional street foods. You can savour high-quality hawker fare in a colourfully decorated market-style space, complete with vendor stalls and themed dining areas.

Then there’s also Chop Chop, the first Asian-style beer garden in the Mai Khao area, creating a buzzing evening mood with fantastic food, beer, and music. You’ll be able to find tasty Thai and Western bites here, robata skewers, and a sophisticated curation of drinks in what is set to be the ideal venue for lively get-togethers.

But my personal favourite is Claws & Co, a casual-yet-chic seafood shack with a contemporary nautical theme, that offers high-quality seafood with a playful twist. You can don the aprons provided to you, roll up your sleeves and indulge in a seafood feast that is sure to make a buzz on your social media pages. You can also enjoy it alongside inventive cocktails and mocktails served at the restaurant.

If you’re looking for a unique dining experience around the area, you should also check out Baan Ar-Jor, which means ‘the great grandparent’s home’ – a beautiful Chinese-Colonial mansion of tin mining business at Mai Khao Beach that houses an authentic Phuket food restaurant guaranteed with Michelin Thailand. Definitely a place to take our your cameras for some Instagram-worthy photos or videos.

Besides food, there’s lots to do in Phuket! There’s the Sunday Street Market called ‘Lard Yai Market’ by locals located in Phuket Old Town – one of the most popular attractions in Phuket Town where you can find art, jewellery, clothing, and souvenirs among rows of street food and beverages.

TIP:
Ask the concierge team to recommend the best surfing spots, the coolest cafes in Phuket’s Old Town and the locals favourite classic Sino-Thai restaurants. You can also join one of the many cruises to explore the beautiful Phang Nga Bay with its limestone karsts and picturesque coves, or charter a speedboat and find a remote beach for a private picnic.

One of the unique features that I experienced was also the convenience of the Avani Hotel & Resort app where you can call, chat, and request for services during your stay. If you need to request a buggy to take you to the beach, pick up your laundry, contact concierge to pick up bags, or even order in-room dining – you’ll be able to do all that and more with just a few taps in the app.

You can also explore the app and check out other Avani hotels and resorts around the world to plan for your next travel with the family. Just look for Avani Hotels in your Apple Store or Play Store.
