SMC is home to what it describes as Malaysia’s first dedicated 24-hour Children’s Walk-in & Emergency Department within a private hospital.

The hospital also has a Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and specialised inpatient wards for children who require closer monitoring or more intensive treatment.

Paediatrics was not the only specialty recognised in the World’s Best Specialized Hospitals 2027 ranking.

 

SMC was also ranked No. 1 in Malaysia for Neurology, while its Oncology services received a high ranking.

 

The hospital has also received several other Newsweek recognitions in recent years.

 

It was ranked No. 1 in Malaysia in Newsweek’s World’s Best Hospitals rankings in both 2025 and 2026, and was named Malaysia’s top hospital in the World’s Best Smart Hospitals 2026 ranking.

 

SMC was also recognised for the fourth consecutive year in Newsweek’s Best Specialized Hospitals Asia Pacific 2026, receiving distinctions across eight specialties including Paediatrics, Oncology and Neurology.

 

 

What the Ranking Looks At

The World’s Best Specialized Hospitals 2027 ranking evaluates hospitals using three main areas:

• Recommendations from healthcare professionals internationally
• Specialty-specific accreditations and certifications
• The use of Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs), which consider patients’ perspectives on their health and treatment outcomes

 

The ranking covers 13 medical specialties globally.

 

SMC’s inclusion places it within the same international ranking programme as major institutions such as Mayo Clinic Rochester, Cleveland Clinic and Johns Hopkins Hospital.

 

Expanding Healthcare Capacity for Malaysian Families

Sunway Medical Centre, Sunway City is currently Malaysia’s largest private quaternary hospital.

 

Following the opening of Tower F, its licensed capacity has increased to 961 beds, with plans to expand beyond 1,100 beds.
