Parentalk episode 1 post natal depression is it merely baby blues

On Sep 7th 2016, a young mother of two from Tobago, Trinidad, fell from the third storey of her home along with her newborn baby. Her sister indicated later that she was battling with post-natal depression.

Closer to home, a similar incident happened in 2015, whereby a new mother fell 16 floors to her death at her Bangsar South condominium, just 10 days after she gave birth to her first child. According to the husband, his wife had been under stress because she could not breastfeed her baby.

What we can see here is that post-natal depression is real and its side effects can be devastating, but the symptoms could be easily missed.

In this episode of Parentalk, we have Datuk Dr. Nor Ashikin, senior consultant obstetrician & gynaecologist, and founder and executive chairman of PrimaNora Medical Centre, as well as well Dr. Ooi Ben Syen who has many years of experience running a medical practice and confinement centre in Penang and KL.

They’re here to help us understand more about post-natal depression or PND in short, what are the prevention methods, and the treatments available in Malaysia.
