REVIEW: Check Out Kids-Friendly Hotel, DoubleTree By Hilton Putrajaya Lakeside For Your Next Staycation

Guess what mums and dads? DoubleTree by Hilton Putrajaya Lakeside recently announced the completion of its refurbishment, unveiling ‘The Malaysian Experience’. But what does ‘The Malaysian Experience’ mean and what can you expect from their completion? Well, we had the chance to experience the hotel for a one night stay, so let’s dive into what’s new, what’s great and are some of the things that could be improved (in my personal opinion).

What’s New?

For context, this was not my first time staying at DoubleTree by Hilton Putrajaya Lakeside. I’ve stayed with them previously while they were partially completed. Their recent announcement introduced 14 new room categories, the DoubleTree Studio Residency and an array of Malaysian-centric experiences for guests to enjoy.

Among the 14 newly introduced contemporary room categories, the Family Deluxe room and King 2 Bedroom Suite were designed for guests traveling in larger groups. The Family Deluxe room features a separate living and dining area, while the King 2 Bedroom Suite offers a spacious living area, pantry, and two bedrooms. Since the hotel was pretty booked out that weekend, I didn’t manage to see these room for myself, but we managed to get a connecting room that made it spacious enough for our family of 4. One thing to note though, you probably shouldn’t expect everything to be all brand new. There were some stains on the wall and seasoned water marks in their bathroom too. Nonetheless, the rooms were pretty comfy and complete with the usual amenities.

hotel with kids pool

As for family activities and amenities – besides their Splash Pool, which is one of the main attractions for families with young children, they also have a new Arcade Room, a kids’ club or ‘Game Room’, foosball and table tennis amenities. However, do note that there is still a small fee of RM8 per child if you’re planning to spend some time in the kids club, which I personally find a bit odd considering that most hotels, and even their sister hotels like Doubletree by Hilton Damai Laut (read my review here) don’t require you to pay extra costs if you are a hotel guest. For the Arcade Room, do prepare some cash to exchange as tokens if you’re planning to spend some time in there.

Around the hotel, you’ll also come across traditional games like Hopscotch, Congkak, and Ketinting. My boys particularly enjoyed playing chess with the giant chess pieces located next to the infinity pool overlooking the Putrajaya Lake. We also found out during this visit that they actually had another pool located in the same block as their lobby. The pool is for adults only and is a great escape if you’re looking for some quiet time without children running around.

As for food, you’re definitely in for a treat at Makan Kitchen, where a vast selection of Malaysian and international cuisines awaits. It’s personally one of my favourite buffet spread (especially during bulan puasa) where you get to enjoy authentic local flavours, with Malay, Chinese, Indian, Iban, and Peranakan delicacies that tantalise the tastebuds. Moreover, THE KOFFEE, the resort’s lobby lounge, provides a cozy spot to unwind with freshly brewed coffee and delightful pastries, perfect for catching up with friends or enjoying a good book.

Studio Residency

In celebration of Malaysia’s rich culture, DoubleTree by Hilton Putrajaya Lakeside has also introduced the DoubleTree Studio Residency, featuring three talented up-and-coming contemporary artists from Segaris Art Center – Fadzril Fakaruddin, Haziq Syawal, and Syahmi Jamaluddin.

For four months each, the programme provides each artist with a dedicated studio space to work on their art. The artists’ creations will be prominently featured during the monthly Seni Weekends, held at the hotel, and there will also be interactive workshops for guests to participate in, giving them an opportunity to get to know the artists better.

Each weekend starting 12th August 2023 for one year,  Seni Weekend will revolve around vibrant acts of Seeing, Listening, and Doing through workshops and interactive sessions that guests can participate in and unleash their creative persona. They also organise junior workshops for young talents to explore their passion and love for art.

Overall, if you’re looking for a kids-friendly hotel that not’s too far from Klang Valley, DoubleTree by Hilton Putrajaya Lakeside is a great place for a quick staycation. If you’re travelling in a big family, note that their suites are often booked out and you may need to book way in advance to grab those rooms.
