Juggling meal times with 2 young children can sometimes drive one mad. On a personal note, my search for kid-friendly restaurants stemmed from me wanting to take a break from the humdrum of mealtime madness at home.

 

Finding restaurants that allowed me to just show up, sans giant bag of toys and knowing full well that the kids would have space to play, explore and settle in at their own pace really took the mental load away.

Not sure where to find kid-friendly restaurants with free play areas? Here are some of my favourite ones:

 

1. Porch & Pantry [New]

This new neighbourhood addition promises to be a fixture in Bangsar. Expect laid-back vibes and friendly service. Kids can play to their hearts’ content before digging in.

2. Snitch by The Thieves

This is the first restaurant at The Gardens Mall with a free playground, and a sizable one at that. My tip? Make sure to make a reservation before going because it gets really packed.

3. Marmalade

This Bangsar Village fixture has finally given its play area a facelift! We have been going for years and love the consistency and service.

4. Wamu Café

This café is definitely designed to be parent-friendly because the layout gives parents a vantage point of the play area, no matter where they are seated.

5. TTDI Meatpoint Steakhouse

This is our go-to for celebrations with the extended family because the kids can exhaust themselves while the adults enjoy a peaceful meal and conversation. My tip? Ask for a table on the first floor, right next to the play area.

6. The Red Beanbag

Our family’s firm favourite and a lifesaver when the kids wake up too early in the morning. can never say no to a RBB burger, even if it’s 9 am in the morning. Don’t forget to check out the very well-curved kids’ menu that’s clearly designed by a parent.

7. CC by MEL

Looking for something fancy? CC by MEL has a fun fusion menu with dishes that not only look good, but taste good as well.

8. Pokok Sunway Pyramid

Looking for a kid-friendly spot to dine at after shopping? This place has a nice kids’ menu that’s not only well priced, but also very generous in portion.

9. Gong Luck Café [New]

This new place boasts authentic Hong Kong-style cafe food. The Beef Hor Fun comes with lots of wok hey, and the milk tea is oh so smooth. The playground is also located in a secure corner, where kids can safely play while parents eat.

10. Naru Play Café

This popular spot is always full of families on weekends, so a booking is a must.

This restaurant is known for its Japanese fusion-style dishes, but did you know their 1 Utama branch comes with a playroom? Try to get a table near the playroom to keep an eye on the kids while you enjoy your meal!

12. VCR Ritchie

This neighbourhood fixture doesn’t just serve vibes, expect good food and a nice little play area to keep the kiddos occupied while you sip on your coffee.

13. Kaya Bakery

This bakery/restaurant is where you’d go for baked goods. It has just relocated to a bigger spot across from where it used to be, with more space for dining in.

14. Kampung Dining Signature

This is a pet-friendly and kid-friendly restaurant in 1Utama that serves Peranakan-style dishes. Don’t forget to finish your meal off with a bowl of ice-cold Cendol.

15. Yamesushi

The food served at this restaurant really heals my inner child. From hearty Japanese-style dishes to rice balls that are too cute to eat. You’ll enjoy the very friendly service at this homely and calm space.

16. FYEN Plae Cafe [NEW]

This is the only one on the list that requires a minimum spend to use the play area. However, I think it’s all worth it as my kids could easily spend more than 2 hours here.

17. Oi! Kopi & Roti [NEW]

This hidden gem is a new addition to Pasar Besar TTDI. The proprietors decided to add a play area because they are also parents who understand the importance of play!
