BBC Earth Spotlights A Number Of Fantastic Locations Across Asia in 8 part series- Planet Earth III

In the fast-paced digital age, finding moments to connect with our loved ones while also expanding our horizons can be a challenge. Planet Earth III, the latest installment in the acclaimed and groundbreaking Planet Earth trilogy, will be gracing our living rooms, promising an exceptional experience for both parents and children. Presented by the iconic Sir David Attenborough, this series offers a perfect opportunity for families to come together, bond, and embark on an educational journey through the natural world.

Picture Shows: Keron Murray, who represents the Wuthathi people, traditional owners of Raine Island, is interviewed on location by Planet Earth III crew member Braydon Moloney. The Wuthahti and Meriam nations are partners in a multi-million pound recovery project to preserve the island, which is the world’s most important green turtle rookery.

This eight part series follows some of the world’s most amazing species and tells extraordinary stories that are dramatic, thrilling, funny and sometimes heart-breaking, but always full of hope. Featuring never-seen-before animal behaviours, Planet Earth III deep dives into the stories and animal characters which reflect the new challenges that wildlife faces in our modern, crowded world.

For parents, this series provides an invaluable opportunity to introduce their children to the breathtaking beauty and complexities of our planet. The awe-inspiring cinematography and insightful commentary make it an educational experience that will spark curiosity in children and adults alike.

In today’s ocean, animals are having to adapt to live alongside humans. In the pacific waters of the coast of South America, sealions compete for anchovy with one of the largest fisheries in the world. They raid nets in their thousands, but it is a huge risk and many young and inexperienced get trapped.

Planet Earth III highlights some of the most fantastic locations across Asia including travelling to Gomantong & Sukau in Borneo to spend time with the Oriental Pied Hornbill, to Dauin in The Philippines to see the Frogfish, Raja Ampat in Indonesia to investigate the lives of the Archer Fish and even visit one of the world’s largest natural cave Hang Son Doong in Vietnam.

The shallow waters of the tropics provide the perfect conditions for coral reefs – the most diverse habitat on the planet. They make up only 1% of the ocean, yet are home to a quarter of all know marine species. Competition is intense and has given rise to some extraordinary adaptations

Locations in Asia include:

  • The Maldives
  • Raja Ampat Indonesia
  • Gobi Desert, Mongolia
  • Ke Bang National Park, Vietnam
  • Yala National Park, Sri Lanka
  • Sukkur Region, Pakistan
  • West Bengal, India

A Planet Earth III cameraman uses the latest rebreather diving systems to film on a coral reef. This allowed them to stay underwater for over 4 hours at a time and produces no bubbles – bubbles sometimes disturb the marine life.

With over 100 years of storytelling heritage at the BBC, BBC Studios’ Natural History Unit is in a unique position to produce a documentary of this scale and importance. Filmed over the course of over five years, Planet Earth III travels to spectacular unseen landscapes. Pioneering filmmaking technology like lightweight drones, high-speed cameras and remotely operated deep-sea submersibles transport audiences from the most remote jungles to the deepest oceans, and from the darkest caves to the hottest deserts.

Picture Shows: A Caribbean flamingo chick struggles in the water after being displaced from its nest mound on Mexico’s Yucatan Coast.

From the makers of Blue Planet II and Planet Earth II, Planet Earth III will also highlight the growing need to preserve and restore nature. We’ve reached a critical point in our planet’s history and the natural world has changed more over the past few decades than ever previously observed in our human history. These changes have been felt across every ecosystem and by the countless creatures that we share this planet with.
