Discovering The Best Family Vacation Spot: DoubleTree By Hilton Damai Laut

When it comes to picking a hotel for a family vacation, gone were the days where we could pick a hotel based solely on the view, or the type of luxuries they had to offer. As a mum to two young boys (aged 7 and 4 years old), I found myself asking tons of questions before deciding on a hotel, such as:

  • Is there a playroom or some sort of activities for the kids?
  • Is the room spacious enough for the 4 of us?
  • Is the location convenient?
  • What’s the pool like? Is it kid-friendly?
  • What’s the selection of food like?

There are so many things to consider before deciding on our next vacation spot, but at the end of the day, what matters most to me personally is whether the kids would enjoy themselves during their stay.

When I was invited to review DoubleTree By Hilton Damai Laut, my immediate reaction was YES! They’ve been on my list of family vacation spots for quite awhile because of their pool and waterslides – my kids love waterslides and this hotel had a number of them. So, we packed our bags and off we went!

The Journey to DoubleTree by Hilton Damai Laut

Since we’re living in the Klang Valley, the journey to DoubleTree by Hilton Damai Laut took about 3 and a half hours of driving – which isn’t too bad, but it did feel like a long journey probably because the roads were not all highways and the boys were just too excited and kept asking us – are we there yet?? 🤣

First Impression

Nestled between the lush rainforest and the pristine beaches of the Straits of Malacca, DoubleTree by Hilton Damai Laut is a beachfront resort with over 200 rooms. Everyone was very welcoming, friendly and accommodating. We stayed in a connecting room, which connects a King Guest Room with a Twin Guest Room that comes with a private balcony boasting the stunning views of the surrounding landscape. With contemporary decor and plush bedding, the rooms are very spacious too. One thing to note though is that they don’t have a bathtub (incase you were thinking of soaking in a bath or having the kids play in the tub).

Family Fun Activities

The resort is definitely a good pick for families. Kids can enjoy the various water slides available according to their age and height. What I like about the water play areas is the variety which accommodates young toddlers all the way up to their teens. So young children can enjoy the smaller slides while more adventurous kids can go on the bigger ones.

For parents, don’t worry, they also have an infinity pool overlooking the scenic straits of Malacca and a jacuzzi area to wind down and relax.

Besides their pools and water play areas, DoubleTree by Hilton Damai Laut also has a private beach with a wide array of water sports to choose from such as jetskiing, banana boat rides, canoeing and so much more. Other activities that are available include island hopping, snorkeling, fish feeding and sunset cruising.

On land, you can bring your kids for a ride on the Buggy-UTV or ATV 4 Wheel Motor – which my kids really enjoyed. They provide safety gear for kids too, so it’s totally safe to bring them on a ride with you.

Kids Club

On top of all the outdoor activities that are available at the resort, DoubleTree by Hilton Damai Laut also has a beautiful Kids Club, which I would rate as one of the best kids club for a resort at their price range.

TIP:
Remember to bring your socks along, as you are required to wear socks in their Kids Club.

Their kids club consists of different sections for role play activities such as being an artist, working in a grocery store, being a policeman, a chef and lots more. They also have a cinema room where the family can enjoy movies or TV shows, plus they also have a PS4 section – where you’ll find my boys a majority of the time lah.

I know this might be a bit random, but it’s worth shouting out – their kids’ toilet! 🙊 Located within the Kid’s Club, it’s bright, it’s cheerful and the sinks are all built to be at kids’ level – super kid-friendly!

Filling Up Your Tummy

There aren’t many places to eat surrounding the resort area, but you can indulge in an authentic regional Malaysian dining experience at Makan Kitchen, which features Malaysian cuisine prepared by talented Local Chefs. Their dishes feature iconic specialties from Malay, Peranakan, Chinese, and Indian cooking traditions, giving a true flavor of the nation’s local cuisines.

For those who enjoy steamboat, there’s Hotpot – a contemporary steamboat restaurant serving a touch of modern Asian cuisine, with varieties of fresh ingredients from the ocean and home grown locally sourced Vegetable Gardens.

Both restaurants have stunning sea views especially during sunset.

For those looking for a quiet drink or simply to unwind and watch the world go by, Axis Lounge would be the perfect spot. Here, you can enjoy a cup of freshly brewed coffee or a pot of tea while you treat yourself to a selection of light sandwiches and delicious cakes with a specially curated high-tea.

Overall we truly enjoyed our stay at DoubleTree by Hilton Damai Laut. It’s perfect for a quick getaway from city life and the kids are surely to enjoy their time there. Take my kids for example, they started asking when we’re going back to the resort the moment we checked out.
