Good news, IKEA fans in Sarawak! You can soon browse those clever home organisation ideas, shop for your favourite Swedish furniture and, of course, get your meatball fix without travelling all the way to the Peninsula. IKEA Kuching is officially opening on 27 November 2026 at Pines Mall, Batu Kawa, marking the first time Sarawakians can experience an IKEA store right at home.
The new store will be IKEA Malaysia’s first small-format outlet, bringing around 5,000 home furnishing articles, familiar favourites, planning services and grab-and-go IKEA Food to Kuching. And here’s another reason to celebrate: shoppers can enjoy the same IKEA prices as customers in Peninsular Malaysia!
The opening is also part of IKEA Malaysia’s broader omnichannel growth strategy, complementing its existing stores, e-commerce channels, delivery services and fulfilment network to give customers more choice in how they discover, plan and shop with IKEA.
A smaller store format, with the same IKEA experience
While IKEA Kuching will be different in size from the familiar flagship stores in Damansara, Cheras, Tebrau and Batu Kawan, customers can still expect the IKEA experience they have come to love – from home furnishing inspiration to room settings, affordable products, planning expertise, services and food, brought together in a format designed to make shopping easier and more convenient.
Customers will be able to explore home furnishing solutions across key areas of the home, discover selected furniture and accessories available to take home immediately, and access a wider range of around 5,000 articles for order, collection or home delivery.
The range will span everything from affordable everyday essentials to more complete home solutions across living rooms, bedrooms, dining, kitchens, storage, children’s spaces and more. Customers can also look forward to familiar IKEA favourites, including iconic designs such as the SKOGSTA dining table, KALLAX shelving unit, POÄNG armchair, NIPÅSEN bench, BILLY bookcase, 365+ range and many more.
Behind each IKEA product is the brand’s approach to Democratic Design, bringing together form, function, quality, sustainability and low price so that good design is not reserved for only a few.
For customers planning bigger changes at home, IKEA Kuching will also provide access to home furnishing expertise and planning support, helping customers move from a simple idea to a more complete solution for their space.
“The opening of IKEA Kuching will be a very special moment for us because it brings us closer to our vision of creating a better everyday life at home for the many people. For the first time, Sarawakians will be able to experience IKEA physically, right here in Kuching.” – Takeshi Murai, Country Retail Director, IKEA Malaysia.
“What excites me most is the opportunity to reach more people in a way that feels relevant to how they live, giving them a place to explore ideas, find inspiration and discover affordable solutions for their homes. Whether it is one small improvement or a more complete home solution, we want good design, function and quality to be within reach of the many.”
“For me, that is what our next chapter of growth is about: getting closer to people, understanding what they need and making the IKEA experience more accessible to more Malaysians.”
The same IKEA price, now closer to home
Affordability has always been at the heart of IKEA Malaysia’s promise to the many people, and IKEA Kuching brings that commitment closer to Sarawakians.
This means Sarawakians will be able to shop the IKEA range without an additional East Malaysia price premium, helping make well-designed and functional home furnishings more accessible to the many people. At IKEA, we believe staying at home is affordable and that everyone should be able to create a home they enjoy living in.
“Affordability is an important part of that promise, and Sarawakians will enjoy the same IKEA prices as customers in Peninsular Malaysia. “As we grow IKEA in Malaysia, my priority is to make sure we stay true to what matters, which is understanding how people live, creating real value in their everyday lives, and keeping good design within reach of the many,” Takeshi Murai emphasised.
From smaller everyday purchases and home organisation solutions to larger furniture pieces and complete room solutions, the store will offer choices across different needs, styles and budgets.
Meatballs, curry puffs and hot dogs are coming too
For many customers, a visit to IKEA would not be complete without IKEA Food. IKEA Kuching will introduce a grab-and-go food format, adapted for the smaller store while giving customers access to familiar favourites.
Customers can look forward to favourites including IKEA meatballs, curry puffs, hot dogs and soft serve, alongside a selection of Swedish food products that can be brought home.
More reasons to be part of IKEA Family
Customers visiting IKEA Kuching can also join IKEA Family, the IKEA loyalty community designed to give members even more ways to enjoy IKEA.
IKEA Family members can look forward to member benefits, selected offers and experiences throughout the year, with membership integrated into the IKEA Kuching shopping journey.
